Desexing
All pets should be desexed by 5-6 months of age.
Why?
- In females there will be a massive reduction in the chance of developing mammary cancer later in life if desexed before their first heat.
- Eliminates the possibility of developing a uterine infection (common in undesexed bitches)
- Eliminates the chance of developing ovarian cancer in females and testicular cancer in males.
- Decreases the chance of road trauma due to wandering from the desire to breed.
- Reduces the chances of tick paralysis (due to increased wandering through bushland).
There is no proven medical reasons not to desex your pet before sexual maturity which occurs between 6 - 9 months of age.
